Lenten Readings for Today: LIGHTBULB!

Readings:
Isaiah 2:11-22
Genesis 2:4-19
Proverbs 3:1-18

Something struck me today when I read the Genesis portion of today's reading. The portion that stood out to me is "The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it." Why did this leap out me? Because of a "documentary" that was talking about the Garden of Eden and exactly what it was Adam and Eve had done to get thrown out of the most wonderful place on the Earth.

According to this particular program, the thing that ultimately did it was that Adam and Eve would become like gods. What would make them most like gods? Growing their own food. So, when Adam and Eve learned how to grow crops they were dangerous and thus kicked out of the Garden of Eden.

n today's reading this argument is easily stripped away because God had put Adam in the Garden to "till it and keep it" which says to me, Adam actually grew food in the Garden of Eden. Not only this, but Adam was also given the task of taking care of everything there. What kind of knowledge and skills would he have had to possess in order to do his job properly. I mean, Adam had to have knowledge of agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry and veterinary skills. Plus, he had God there directly teaching him and giving him knowledge of how to care for everything. God trusted Adam enough that Adam named all plants and animals. This is a big trust, and one you only give to your best employee and servant.

Sometimes it is fun to see how the "logical" scientific mind thinks when they are trying to "debunk" Christianity and The Bible, but if you actually look at the words in the Bible and use logic and common sense, you see just how easily the arguments against the faith melt away. Is this why Christianity is so feared, even in our own country and among our own people?
