Against the Storm (The Raines of Wind Canyon, #4)Against the Storm by Kat Martin

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don't normally read Kat Martin's series novels, although I love her work. It seems I usually just read one book out of a series and I'm fine. Because she can incorporate stand-alones in her series work, I enjoy a good book and story and move on. Not this time! After reading Against the Storm, book #4 in her The Raines of Wind Canyon series, I am determined to read more of this particular series!

This book is a perfect stand-alone, Kat Martin does excellent work in telling any story she decides to tell, but the characters were so alive for me I want to get to know some more of the men in the series and see what has happened in their lives.

Trace Rawlins, the security expert in this novel is the cowboys' cowboy. He is an ex-Ranger and his description made my lil' ol' heart just flutter! I do declare! It was the same for Maggie O'Connell, a redhead (which just so happens Trace has a weakness for) with ambition, career, and life of her own. Maggie even makes the statement she isn't looking for anyone. We all know what happens when that gets said!

I won't give any more away about the book and story line. All in all, I just loved it.

Next for me in this series is Against the Wind. I am extremely excited!

Sexy And I Know It Cover is AWESOME!

Was tooling around the Internet just a short bit ago and came across this cover. It is the most awesome cover of a song I have ever heard, and I even believe it is better than the original, even if the original is by LMFAO! Check it out!

Dark Shadows the Movie...Aint Bad

Dark Shadows, along with Star Trek, kept me interested in something through many of those long hours of pain and unhappiness. True, being so young, I didn't understand everything that was happening in Dark Shadows then, but it was spooky and there was something about Barnabas Collins that made me feel funny in the pit of my stomach. He was coool in a way no one, except Spock (of course), was coool.

When I heard there was going to be a re-make of Dark Shadows in movie format, I was dubious, to say the least. My husband and one of his best friends practically had to drag me to the showing Friday night. We had dinner and I ordered popcorn and a Coke to eat and sip on while watching the flick. "At least there will be something I will enjoy about this movie!" I proclaimed. True, the movie does have Johnny Depp playing Barnabas Collins, and, for many, this will be enough to make the movie grand. His being Barnabas didn't help me any at all. I was nervous, especially since I have been re-watching the original series via Netflix recently, completely unrelated to the approach of the movie.

I am here to say...Dark Shadows the Movie isn't bad. In fact, it had just the right amount of camp and the right amount of seriousness to make it funny and keep you interested in what was happening with the characters. There were loops you had to go through because, as my husband pointed out, no one could put an entire series into a movie. Still, the loops you were asked to follow did not detract from the story at all - which was a stunner for me - and the humor present was exactly at the right places and the right times.

The main thing about the movie for me was when Johnny Depp's Barnabas spoke the perfect line. I won't spoil it for everyone, but if you've ever watched the series you will know the line of which I speak, and it concerns a name. It was there. It wasn't as elegant as when Jonathan Frid spoke it, but it was still elegant and had the Johnny Depp appeal we've all come to love (ladies [and some gents], you understand exactly what I mean!) and almost expect.

If you haven't seen the movie yet I urge you to go and make up your own mind.

Oh, and as a side note: Jonathan Frid gave his approval of Johnny Depp playing Barnabas and the cane in the movie is the original cane from the series.

It is a sad note that Mr. Frid passed away April 13, 2012 at the age of 87. Although he didn't get to see the remake of his show, I think he would actually be pleased.

Feels Like Summer

Love these two songs by Lenny Kravitz!

This song is by Bobaflex. I really like this one. What do you think? It's off their album/CD Hell in My Heart. It isn't what you think. I highly recommend you check them out on YouTube.

I also think I like this group. What do you think?

Deadlocked: A Sookie Stackhouse Novel
Saturday, May 5 at 7:00 pm

With Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), in town, it’s the worst possible time for a body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank. Now, it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

This is a ticked event. Tickets are free and available with the purchase of Deadlocked, available May 1st, at Joseph-Beth Booksellers. Vouchers for the book will be available April 2nd and will come with a ticket. Gives Back Members will have a limited opportunity to meet the Author first.
